Monroeville residents and local leaders observed the first night of Hanukkah with a sense of shared concern after reports of a deadly attack on a Hanukkah gathering in Sydney’s Bondi Beach.

At the Chabad of Monroeville, Rabbi Mendy Schapiro spoke about the importance of holding community and tradition close at a moment like this. Among those in attendance was Adam Forgie, who joined neighbors in support of their local Jewish community.

Families and community leaders lit the menorah together, recognizing those affected abroad while affirming their connections here at home.
